Main Exhibit: Holiday Selections 2011
November 9 — December 23, 2011
Main Gallery: For the 2010 holiday season, Bert Gallery has assembled a fine selection of artwork by local artists both past and present. Many of the paintings are noted Providence painters from the late 19th century, including George Whitaker (1872 - 1943),Elijah Baxter (1849 - 1939), Henry Cady (1849-1935),Grace Albee (1890 - 1985), Louise Marianetti ( 1916 - 2009), H. A. Dyer (1872 - 1943) and Gordon Peers (1909 - 1988).
Rhode Island artists painted a wide range of subject matter and styles to express themselves. All struggled to represent new artistic visions- whether it was capturing a transitional time of the season or the daily rhythm of life.
Whatever the style or subject matter of choice, local painters all reflect the cultural and social concerns of their era. The exhibit has been installed to highlight various subject themes from Jack Frost nipping, Child’s Play, Blooms to Remember, a Labor of Love, the Land is Rich and the Mist and the Sea. Stop by and browse our fine selection of Rhode Island painters.
