Early American – Solomon Dodge circa 1843-1849

This folk painting of Solomon Dodge is a great example of early naive American painting. The painting can be dated from 1843 – 1849 by the stretcher stamp – “Hollis & Wheeler 59 Union Street in Boston, MA”.   It is possibly from the school of William Matthew Prior (1806 – 1873).
